Latte set in a froth over the perfect cup

By NICOLA BOYES

It's a little bit of art and a little bit of science but mainly a lot of passion - and coffee-making has New Zealanders outclassing their rivals across the Tasman.

The executive director of the world barista championships, Insaturator ("Ini" for short - he says he doesn't have a last name), let his nose and taste buds do the work in Taupo at the weekend for NZ's first Coffee Festival and Awards.

Have you heard? Coffee comes of age in U.S.

HAVE YOU HEARD?

Gone are the days of coffee being the bitter black stuff thickening in the bottom of an ancient pot plopped next to the greasy magazines in a gas station.

A Daily Dose of Wisdom from the Rebbe

The Garden
----------

There are people who do many good things, but with pessimism -- because to them the world is an inherently bad place. Since their good deeds have no life to them, who knows how long they can keep it up?

We must know that this world is not a dark, sinister jungle, but a garden. And not just any garden, but G-d's own pleasure garden, full of beauty, wonderful fruits and fragrances, a place where G-d desires to be with all His essence.

If the taste to us is bitter, it is only because we must first peel away the outer shell to find the fruit inside.
