Write For INeedCoffee and Get Paid

by INeedCoffee Staff

For over 8 years INeedCoffee has remained commercial free. It was our belief that it would be wrong to make money without compensating the writers for their work. The easiest solution was to be 100% commercial free. And it worked great. This site has operated on a budget of less than $200 a year. Then the site audience started to grow larger and larger. Although INeedCoffee is fast, it isn't built for the current volume of users and content. Recently we starting investigating building the next version of INeedCoffee. Although the cost wasn't outrageous, it was then that we came to the conclusion that it was time to add advertising, if we could do it in a way that we shared the revenue with our writers.

Shared Revenue Model

Each article will now have a section of Google Ads on it. When the server delivers the page it will place the Adsense code for the writer 50% of the time. The other 50% it will refer to the AdSense code for INeedCoffee. As of May 2007, INeedCoffee averages between 5,000 and 10,000 page views a day. Traffic has increased every year since we debuted the site in April 1999. The vast majority of sites that rely on user contributed content do not pay their writers. We believe strongly that this is unfair. Coffee professionals deserve to be compensated for sharing their coffee knowledge. Splitting the ad-revenue 50/50 with the writers is the fair thing to do. It will give INeedCoffee the funds it needs to grow and encourage more coffee writers to submit content to our site. The payment that you receive from click-through viewing of the ads will be facilitated by Google, not INeedCoffee.

Getting an Adsense Account

You can apply for a Google Adsense Account at google.com/adsense/. During the account setup, Google will ask for a web site address. If you have your own web site use that URL; and if you have a Google ID (username and password) setup, use that existing Google ID. Once you have an account, email us with your google_ad_client ID. You'll need to use the AdSense for Content setup wizard, which will create a code snippet. Inside of the code snippet you'll find your ID. The ID will look like this: pub-3109743721650354.

This Is Optional

You are still free to submit content to INeedCoffee even if don't wish to setup your own Adsense ID. Keep in mind that you may change your mind and join the Adsense program later.

How to Contribute to INeedCoffee

First time writers are encouraged to read INeedCoffee Article Tips and Guidelines. It should answer most questions about the article submission process.

Coffee 'lowers liver cancer risk'

Drinking coffee appears to lower the risk of developing liver cancer, according to findings published in the medical journal Gastroenterology.

"Data on potential beneficial effects of coffee on liver function and liver diseases have accrued over the last two decades," Dr Susanna Larsson and Dr Alicja Wolk, from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, write.

Several studies have found an inverse relationship between coffee consumption and liver enzymes levels that indicate a risk of chronic liver disease and cirrhosis.

The researchers therefore conducted a large review, or "meta-analysis," of published epidemiological studies to look at the association between coffee consumption and the risk of liver cancer.

Small coffeehouses battle for a share of the caffeine market

By Cox News Service | June 3, 2007

ATLANTA -- You have money. You need a caffeine fix. You have so-o-o many options.

Starbucks, the giant java icon pushing a lot of latte into America's heartland, is on pace to add 2,400 stores this fiscal year, bringing its total to nearly 15,000. Competitors from McDonald's to Dunkin' Donuts are scrambling to sell America cups of premium coffee.

That has smaller coffeehouses searching for ways to grab a corner of the market.

"It's pretty hard for an independent to try to stay away from where a Starbucks is," said Bruce Milletto, president of Oregon-based consultant Bellissimo Coffee InfoGroup.

In fact, Milletto said he advises clients to be close to a Starbucks, which does extensive research before choosing store locations. "It tells me that must be a great area demographically to sell coffee in."

Less Calories in Starbucks Espresso Drinks

Switches to 2 Percent Milk
Associated Press

SEATTLE, May 31, 2007 - Starbucks Corp. said Thursday it will replace whole milk with 2 percent for espresso drinks in all of its U.S. and Canadian stores by the end of the year.

Drinks in North America will soon be made by default with the lower-fat milk, but customers can still request their cappuccino with whole milk, the company said.

Starbucks said it made the switch based on increased requests from consumers for low-fat milk in stores, as well as increasing purchases of lower fat milk in U.S. consumers' homes.
