St. Thomas Roasters offers prepaid coffee service

What Geof Smith describes as the ultimate java card will certainly be characterized by his customers as a welcomed convenience. As one St. Thomas customer expressed to this reporter, "Anything to avoid the coffee line in the morning is worth it." According to Geof Smith, owner of St. Thomas Roasters, these cards have a dollar value of $35 but when you consider the amount of time customers will save by not having to wait in the coffee line each morning, the actual value in time saved will certainly exceed this out of pocket expense. Cardholders will be entitled to unlimited consumption of coffee restricted to one cup at a time during open hours from Monday through Saturday. Each card is valid for a period of 30 days from the purchase date and not transferrable. Espresso and specialty drinks are excluded.

St. Thomas Roasters was established in May of 2000 as both a wholesale roaster and retailer of arabica coffees from its storefront facility in Linglestown, Pennsylvania. Since its conception, St. Thomas Roasters has enlisted a large base of loyal customers who enjoy fresh roasted coffees. The shop features entertainment on the weekends along with delicious gourmet pasteries, soups and other related products

Although it may be habit forming, caffeine is not addictive

By Jessica Majkowski
Science and Technology Reporter

The clock strikes midnight and you realize with a sudden sensation of dread that you haven’t studied for that enormous test tomorrow morning. Time to grab a cup of coffee or chug that Mountain Dew.

Have college students become addicted to caffeine? Herbert Muncie, professor and chair of the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Maryland, said it is not possible to become addicted to caffeine.

For a substance to truly be addictive, you have to develop a tolerance for the pleasurable aspects of it, Muncie said.

Caffeine's effects are far-reaching

By Bob Guinn
Clemson Extension Agent

(The following article was written by Meghan Morrison, a registered dietitian who performed an internship at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.)

Caffeine is the most popular and readily available drug in the world. It occurs naturally in plants and acts as a mild stimulant to the nervous system.

Caffeine is a psychoactive drug used for both medical and non-medical reasons, most often non-medically for its stimulating effect on mood and behavior. It increases alertness, attention and mental ability. Anxiety, gastrointestinal distress, nervousness, irritability, insomnia and inability to concentrate are some negative side effects.

New Website Dedicated to Home Roasters

Burman Coffee Traders: Purveyors of the best Green Coffee Beans, Home Coffee Roasters & Coffee Roasting equipment

Our passion is coffee. Here at BurmanCoffee.com, we understand that two of the key attributes of great coffee are freshness, and the ability to roast our coffee just the way we like it.

Home Roasting Coffee Beans provides a simple way to enjoy the aromas and tastes of freshly roasted, super premium, gourmet coffees. Think of the wonderful flavor and smell of fresh bread right from a bread maker, compared to that of store bought bread. Fresh roasted coffee provides a similar experience. Roasted coffee stales very quickly and is dramatically diminished in days, so home roasting ensures your coffee is always fresh

Home Coffee Roasting is easy! If you can use a hot-air popcorn popper, you can roast your own coffee. In fact, some coffee roasters are similar to popcorn poppers. On this site, you will find easy instructions and roasting suggestions for the Home Coffee Roaster.

Home Coffee Roasting is fun! Exploring some of the best coffees in the world, roasted just the way you like them, and always fresh is way cool! And soon you’ll be creating your own custom blends with tips and suggestions from our website.

Home Coffee Roasting provides tremendous value! We sell our coffees at a significant discount to their roasted price. Our unroasted (i.e. "green") coffee beans often sell for half the price of comparable roasted coffees from commercial roasters

Our quest is to search out the best super premium green coffees and green coffee beans available. We are less concerned about providing a long menu of huge selections, but rather, a carefully selected offering of world class coffees, at affordable prices, that will enhance your home coffee roaster experience.

We at Burman Coffee look forward to having you as a member of our coffee family.

Global Issues Flow Into America's Coffee

By KIM BENDHEIM

A buzz in California has caught the attention of the world's biggest coffee companies.

In a growing movement reminiscent of the grape boycott in the 1970's, antiglobalization and human rights advocates in California have been promoting the purchase of Fair Trade certified coffee — coffee that guarantees a so-called living wage to poor coffee farmers in developing countries. An estimated 25 million of these farmers have suffered because raw coffee prices have fallen below the cost of production.

The great Berkeley coffee war has turned into a conscience-bruising roast

Charles Burress, Chronicle Staff Writer Sunday, November 3, 2002
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Berkeley -- The great Berkeley coffee war has turned into a conscience-bruising roast.

Measure O, the internationally watched ballot initiative, would require all cups of coffee sold in the city to be "fair trade," organic or shade-grown. Ground coffee and whole beans are not affected.

In the hothouse of campaign images, a vote for O would put a Starbucks barista behind bars; a vote against would starve the child of a peasant coffee farmer.

Voters are told the measure would put handcuffs on the Statue of Liberty by depriving consumers of freedom of choice. Not supporting it is equated to destroying the rain forests.

A Daily Dose of Wisdom from the Rebbe

Separation Anxiety
------------------
Within every love, there is fear: The fear of separation from that which you love.

A child fears separation from the parent, a lover from the beloved, the body fears separation from the soul and the soul from its Source Above.

So what do you love? Look at your worries and you will know. If you are aflame with worry over your debts and financial future, then it is the material world you love -- because you believe in the material world and you see it as the source of all that is good for you. Your worries are anxiety of separation from material good.

Cleave to the true Source Above and your heart will have no room for fear of this world.
