Coffee enters China for 122 years

It is recorded that coffee was first introduced and successfully planted in China's Taiwan region in 1884. While in 1992 a French missionary brought along a passel of coffee seedlings to Binchuan County in southwestern China's Yunnan province, where the coffee plants grew and multiplied well. Up till now there are still more than 30 plants blossoming and bearing fruits. Since the mid-1950s coffee has become an important cash crop in Simao, Banna, Wenshan, Baoshan, Dehong in Yunnan province.

Yunnan granule coffee tastes muddy but not bitter, flagrant but not spicy, mellow with slight acidity, and is regarded as one of the fine coffee types by experts from the International Coffee Organization.

Nowadays coffee bars emerge like bamboo shoots after a spring rain in not only big cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, but also in cities of second and third class.

Coffee fans fill up on taste, location

By A'SIA HORNE-SMITH
Staff Writer

The coffee market is booming and expensive brands are the "in thing," but workers who drink coffee on the run say the less expensive ones stimulate their taste buds just as well as the others.

In 2005, The Specialty Coffee Association of America conducted a report, discovering what people want from their coffee shops. The association reported 70 percent of adults believe quality of the coffee and location of the cafe or store is important. Only 26 percent of adults thought the price was more important.

Simple stirrer takes caffeine out of coffee

By Chris Mercer
Beverage Daily

A few swirls round the cup could be enough to literally suck the caffeine out of your coffee, thanks to new technology developed by The DeCaf Company.

It may sound more like a gadget from the realms of science fiction, but the US-based DeCaf Company says it is ready to licence newly developed polymers that can be used to control or remove caffeine content in all beverages as they are served.

If successful, the patented technology could open up a whole new method of ‘doing' decaffeinated coffee, with less hassle and more flavour.

Easy Espresso Recipes

Compliments of www.coffeemakersonline.net

If you've just purchased a coffee or espresso machine from CoffeeMakersOnline.net, or are looking to purchase one, chances are you'll want to know about easy coffee and espresso recipes you can make with your new machine that are great for parties or get-togethers, or if you just want to enjoy an exotic coffee drink in the mornings to add a little variety to your day.

One of the easiest ways to make coffee drinks that are original in taste but not time consuming is to add special flavors to your coffee; you can do this by adding extract to your coffee while it is being prepared in your machine, or you can add the flavors after the coffee is made. Here are some flavored coffee and cappuccino recipes you may want to try:

Easy Peppermint Pattie Cappuccino

INGREDIENTS:

1 small (1-1/2 inch) YORK R Peppermint Pattie, unwrapped and quartered
2 teaspoons milk
1 cup hot brewed coffee

DIRECTIONS:

In large microwave-safe mug place peppermint pattie pieces and milk. Microwave at HIGH (100%) 30 seconds or until candy is melted and smooth when stirred. Stir in hot coffee until mug is almost full. Top with whipped cream, if desired. Serve immediately.

Gunline Coffee

INGREDIENTS:

2 cups powdered non-dairy coffee creamer
1 1/2 cups instant hot chocolate mix
1 1/2 cups instant coffee granules
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

DIRECTIONS:

In a large bowl, stir together the coffee creamer, hot chocolate mix, instant coffee, sugar, nutmeg and cinnamon. Store in an airtight container at room temperature. To make 1 cup, spoon 2 heaping tablespoons of the mix into a coffee mug, and add 1 cup of boiling water. Stir until dissolved.

You don't even have to use the instant coffee recipes that are sometimes recommended for flavored coffee drinks; once you select a coffee or espresso maker from CoffeeMakersOnline.net, you can make quality coffee with gourmet beans yourself easily.

Some machines you may want to look into purchasing include the Bosch Benvenuto Fully Automatic Coffee Center, which allows you to make large amounts of coffee in virtually no time, the Briel Cadiz Auto Espresso Machine, which includes a 15-bar pump and removable overflow tray, or the Briel Domus Due Espresso Machine, which includes a measuring spoon and coffee tamper. Coffee growers elect Wayman

Pacific Business News (Honolulu)
by Howard Dicus

Jim Wayman, the new president of the Hawaii Coffee Association, has offered an olive branch to Kona growers concerned about the integrity of the Kona brand.

The largest coffee association in the state concluded its annual meeting over the weekend at the Kauai Beach Hotel & Resort, north of Lihue airport after electing Wayman, a former president, for a return stint in the post.

"I hope that all the coffee associations can work together," Wayman said. "Let's get together. Let's figure out what we have in common, and let's work for our common goals."

Wayman is president of Hawaii Coffee Co., producer of Lion Coffee, Royal Hawaiian Coffee and several coffees branded for local chefs and hotels. As a leading producer of Kona blends, Wayman has been a focus of criticism by some Kona growers who think blends dilute the Kona brand.
