Costa Rica’s Dream Coffee

Costa Rican coffee has changed, so give some a try. Changes in coffee production and an attempt to keep up with the growing market for coffee and gourmet coffee has caused some changes in the coffee coming out of this region.Because of the growning trend of small coffee mills, the variety of flavors coming from this region is even larger.

If you already love Costa Rica coffee, no doubt it’s for the extremely mild, some say perfect, coffee flavor. Very mild with no bitterness, a very balanced flavor that’s worst criticism has always been its steadiness.Critics have determined that coffee from this region is failrly bland. And some of the huge coffee-producing farms and mills did make an effort to produce a coffee that would please almost every coffee drinker.

Chorreador de Café - Costa Rican Coffee Maker

A what you say?

A Costa Rican coffee maker. It's funny how some of these projects are developed but this one came to us in a round about way from one of our readers, Michael O'Reilly. We were exchanging emails about Costa Rica, since we own a little piece of property down there, and he sent me a web site to check out. While surfing around that web site I stumbled onto an interesting site about Costa Rican coffee. We are coffee drinkers, roast our own beans and often buy coffee beans from Costa Rica. Any how we took the picture they showed and made our own coffee maker.

Good news for Costa Rican coffee producers

Coffee emerges in study as the major source of antioxidants

Special to A.M. Costa Rica

There's good news for Costa Rican coffee producers.

That steaming cup of coffee is also the number one source of antioxidants in the U.S. diet, according to a new study by researchers at the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania. The study was described at the national meeting of the American Chemical Society.

"Americans get more of their antioxidants from coffee than any other dietary source. Nothing else comes close," says study leader Joe Vinson, a chemistry professor at the university. Although fruits and vegetables are generally promoted as good sources of antioxidants, the new finding is surprising because it represents the first time that coffee has been shown to be the primary source from which most Americans get their antioxidants, Vinson said. Both caffeinated and decaf versions appear to provide similar antioxidant levels, he added.

Costa Rican coffee...7 regions, 7 coffees

Golden Bean Coffee

The excellence of Costa Rican coffee can be enjoyed in seven different ways, given that the country has many different coffee-producing zones. The special traits of the coffee produced in each of these zones are famous worldwide. Costa Rica´s advantageous climate enables it to produce enough coffee varieties to satisfy every taste.

In Costa Rica , rainfall, relative humidity and temperature tend to be lower in the higher altitudes, although there are significant differences between the Pacific and Atlantic regions of the country. Altitude influences climate and affects the overall size and hardness of the coffee bean, as well as the quality of the brew, particularly its acidity. In addition, the Arabica variety has special characteristics that produce an aromatic, delicate good-tasting coffee.
