Coffee is king.

According to the National Coffee Association of U.S.A. Inc., 108.3 million Americans over the age of 18 drink coffee daily. In 2003, 166.6 million Americans drank a cup of joe at some point, says Joe DeRupo, the organizations director of communications.

"I don't think there is any doubt that coffee is here to stay," says DeRupo, who adds that the U.S. coffee industry has more than 1,000 roasters and importers and at least 10,000 coffee cafes.

But given the broad selection of hot beverages on the market -- from gourmet and flavored coffees to latte and espresso -- selecting a beverage and a maker can get tricky.
