Nell Newman Brings Fair Trade, Organic Coffee to Denver

WATERBURY, Vt.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 21, 2005--Nell Newman, daughter of actors Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, will be serving up the taste of a better world(TM) when she offers samples of her organic and Fair Trade Certified(TM) coffee at Wild Oats in Glendale on Wednesday, Oct. 26.

Nell is President of Newman's Own(R) Organics, a company that started as a division of Newman's Own(R) in 1993. Nell's company has developed a line of organic and Fair Trade Certified(TM) coffees with Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc.(R) (NASDAQ: GMCR). Paul Newman donates all his royalties after taxes from Newman's Own Organics to educational and charitable non-profits.

Nell recently traveled to Guatemala, where she met with farmers who grow the beans for her coffee. "The response we received from the growers at the cooperative was tremendous," Nell said. "They really appreciate the fact that we pay a Fair Trade price that enables them to provide medical support for their kids, provide an education, and have a better standard of living."

Nell will be pouring free samples of Nell's Breakfast Blend and Newman's Special Blend Decaf (SWP) at Wild Oats in Denver from noon to 1:30 p.m. She will also sign copies of her book, Guide to a Good Life, which will be offered free with the purchase of two bags of Newman's Own Organics coffee. Her appearance is scheduled for October as part of National Fair Trade Month.

While she is in Denver, Nell will receive the e-chievement award from etown, a weekly radio broadcast heard on NPR and other radio stations. The award is given to individuals who make a positive difference in their communities and beyond.

What's Fair Trade?

After oil, coffee is the second-largest traded commodity in the world, and trading prices fluctuate wildly. Farmers never know how much they'll be paid for their beans. When coffee prices fall below production costs, farmers are forced off their land and into desperate poverty. Fair Trade provides farmers a fair price for their harvest with a guaranteed minimum, which means they can invest in their crops, their communities, and their future.

Newman's Own Organics coffee is sourced and roasted by Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, a leader in the specialty coffee industry.
