What would you say if I told you that your coffeepot might burn your house down? You'd want to get rid of it, wouldn't you? That's exactly how I feel. Bunn announced that certain models of this coffeepot (GR10, B10, and others) are being recalled because they could catch fire. There have already been fires. So tell me, how would you think a reputable company would offer to replace these coffeepots to their loyal customers?

Oh, now that's funny, because I was thinking "replace" too, wasn't I? But Bunn doesn't want to do that. I mean, they claim they do, but they really don't. Here are the terms of their recall: Customers can either ship their coffeepot back to be repaired, or PAY half for a new one.

WHAT????

Let me go through the specific problems I see with each option, so you'll understand my frustration. First, the ship it off to get repaired option. That would require me to be without the use of my coffeepot for AT LEAST a week. And I don't know about you, but that is unacceptable. Bunn HAS to realize that anyone who would spend $100 on one of their coffeepots LIKES COFFEE, and drinks it at least once a day. So this solution would require me to go out to the store and BUY a 2nd cofeepot, which I would not be able to return when my Bunn was fixed, because it would be USED. WHY should I have to incur the expense of a second unit when it is not my fault they created a fire hazard for a coffeemaker???

OK, option 2: PAYING for my OWN recall replacement, albeit at a half-off price. Well, I'm sure I don't even have to get into how WRONG it is - on so many levels - to have to pay for my own recall replacement. So let's just assume that and move on. Say I do it; I pay half to get my new coffeepot from Bunn. BUT - they won't send you the new unit - that you are PAYING FOR - UNTIL you send your old one back. So even if you pay, you still have to be without a coffeepot, go out and buy another one in the meantime, etc. Then there's the problem of having to buy it THROUGH BUNN. That means that if I ever have a problem, and need it replaced, that instead of just hopping into the car and going to the store to exchange the defective unit, I will have to ship it back to Bunn. This will then require me to purchase a 2nd coffeemaker in the interim while I'm waiting ... do you see a pattern here?

And while we're at it, why don't we find out what Bunn will charge us for these new replacement coffeemakers? I was told that I have a choice of the GR10 or the new model NHB. That's right - I have a choice of THE SAME MODEL I ALREADY HAVE or the new one. Granted, the GR10 they would send me would not be a recalled unit, but still ... But wait, it gets worse. When I asked the price of the new model - the NHB - Bunn told me MORE than half of what it is selling in stores for. And this is ok? This is legal?

Bunn, if you don't want to lose your customers, I would rethink this lousy recall plan. Between myself and other family members, we have 3 Bunn units total that have been recalled. If we have to be without our coffeemakers - resulting in buying another coffeemaker - or pay for our own replacement, then we may just have to consider another brand. KitchenAid actually just had a recall last week of their coffeemakers for a fire hazard. Want to guess what they offered their customers?? They offered FREE REPLACEMENT. Maybe I'll buy a KitchenAid.

I completely agree with this 1st comment. To think that a company has created a significant safety concern - enough to warrant a 'recall' and then charge the consumer for that recall is unconscionable, albeit irresponsible. It demonstrates the value system for which Bunn subscribes. How could this be allowed through the government which is overseeing the 'voluntary recall'? Makes you wonder what's going on. Although this is a very desirable coffee maker due to it's holding tank, this is not the actual 1st time they've had a problem - they're just admitting it. This is my 2nd one of these - the 1st one lasted around 4 years and started leaking water - why? - because the water bowl had melted and was not making contact internally. I had contacted bunn at that time - 1 1/2 years ago - and they were 'happy' to send me a 'repair' kit, which I had to install - that's how I know what was going on - I still have that pot by the way. When this occurred I attempted to compel them to replace my unit since they obviously had a 'known' problem - e.g. a free repair kit - but they were not responsive to this plea and denied a problem - they blamed it on my water - 'Had I ever ran vinegar, or another cleaner through the pot?' - How could that be done with a heated holding pot...hmmm - so Bunn is appartently not a responsible supplier by any means - nor do they truly care whether someone's home burns down or someone get's injured...shame on them no doubt. By the way, the repair kit did not work - and hesitantly I went to buy another...so shame on me as well...

I was told to send my Bunn coffee pot to the co. and they would fix it free, and postage free, or I could get a new one for half price. This would make my coffee pot cost around $150. I had to take it to the UPS store (gas) pay over $7.00 for the packaging and of course do without my coffee pot for days ?? I do not want to every buy another Bunn if this is the way customers are treated. WE are paying for their mistakes! All my family have Bunns, but never again!

Listening to all the other comments on the recall of the Bunn. I really think they should send everyone that has a recall their money back. Wall-Mart would !!! Then let us decide what brand of coffee pot we want. I have had a Bunn for about 12 years, and swore I would never have any other Brand. But now I'm not going to bother with the recall,Just change brand. Good Luck Bunn company,You guys cut your own throats. I know alot of People that have the Bunn, And You have lost alot of MONEY !!! NOT GOOD BUSINESS !!!

I was just as frustrated with this whole process by Bunn as well and they made a big marketing error in their judgement and will lose a lot of business for their short sightedness. I was also advised by the person I talked to that after I gave them my name and mailing address that if I did not unplug their coffee machine immmediately and it started a fire, they were not legally responsible for any damages it might cause. My first thought was to get a new one but I got thinkng, the old coffee pot cost me around $100 dollars and the so called discounted price for a new Bunn coffee pot was $62 dollars plus I would have to ship the old one back at my expense. Do they think we are all stupid? You know damn well that the $62 dollars would have paid all of their costs for the manufacture of a new replacment coffee pot and would not have cost Bunn a cent. I thought to myself, what can I do to make this whole process cost Bunn as much as possible and that was to return the old one for repair. Bunn sent me a box with the postage paid, they paid the postage for the return of the defective machine and they paid the postage for the return of the repaired machine to me. Here is where the stupidty came in on Bunn's part. Did they really think their customers were going to go without home brewed coffee in their house for weeks while their old Bunn machine was repaired? Hell, no if they are anything like me. I went out an bought a new Cusinart coffee maker for around $100 dollars that has more features than the old Bunn coffee machine and it does an excellent job of coffee making and I will never consider buying another Bunn coffee machine again. Prior to this incident with Bunn, I had purchased two Bunn coffee makers and would have bought another one had they been fairer about it.

I would like to say, I just bought a bun coffee pot for 150.00 dollars I have never spent more than 30.00 dollars for a coffee pot, so I got me a bun coffee pot and I love it,but you better give people there money back or they can sue you under a cusumer act that most people are not aware of so you might think two about handleling this issue properly or you may go bank rupped over law sueds after all it proberly cost bunn company 30.00 dollars to make the machine maybe not even that, take care of your customers or the store company may not even deal with you anymore, I work at Lowes and I do not think that they will be happy with that service to thier customers. Wake Up

How can a recall work in America? People throw away receipts. And most things aren't repairable, but must be replaced. How could a company contact all the people who own one that was a Christmas or wedding present?

These sound like pretty good coffeemakers. Still American-made? That's neat. How many products get managed at least this well by the maker so that there can be a recall?

I've lost count how many coffeemakers I've bought and ditched once they failed. I pry them apart because they are snap-together plastic, but the mechanism is simple and nonrepairable.

Someone had a Bunn coffeemaker last 4 years? Cool. Maybe buying a Bunn is an idea I need to consider.

I own the bunn getting recalled. I will send it back for repair, but will purchase a different brand. The Bunn will not be used again and I will not purchase another, unless they change the recall issue.

I thought we were the only ones having bad luck with Bunns. Our first Bunn started leaking water so we bought a new Bunn. It is less than 2 years old and now it is leaking water like the first one.Having read so many comments about other people having the same problem and Bunn basically not taking care of their problem I will not be buying another Bunn.

I wanted to leave a comment for this issue. Bunn coffee pots have been a family trait for the last 20 or so years. My mom has one of the first home editions I think. It is white, with only a 10 cup pot. It had a water container you had to pour from, with the pot under neath to avoid having coffe all over the place. Needless to say, my two sisters, my mom, my grandmothers, my aunts and my brother all have a Bunn coffee pot, just different models. My sister and I bought a newer one two years ago, and hers was on the recall list, but my is not. All because mine has the chrome front where Bunn is written. She shipped hers off, kept her decanter and basket, they sent her a brand new coffee pot with in 5 days. Luckily for her, we have an old Bunn pot that we have been passing around now, dealing with this recall. I have it now, and hope to get mine replaced. It is cracked in three spaces by the resevior and heating element. The top of the pot is cracked leading to the basket and the underside of where the diffuser is, is so cracked it feel off into my grounds and it got thrown away. Luckily again, we had a very old one that we are still passing around. Just so everyone knows, my mom has had her Bunn since 1986. It began leaking a few years ago, and we bought her some new rubber seals, and it is still kicking. Good Luck to everyone whom may still be dealing with this issue.
